PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Schena-Ricke Residence
Bruce and Cathy Schena are no ordinary homeowners. As art collectors, children of contractors and admirers of modern architecture, they are sophisticated design enthusiasts. So when they decided to renovate their existing home they had several parameters: renovate the first floor, add a second story, make it modern and keep it green. After much iteration, the design team emerged with a house that met the family’s functional needs and had the look and feel that they were hoping for. The design has a modern aesthetic with straightforward forms, clean lines and natural materials. When it was time to turn the designs into reality, Bruce and Cathy chose a builder that was committed to sustainable practices and had a great deal of green building experience under his belt. Many sustainable features were integrated including Cool Roofing, FSC certified framing, Recycled Denim Insulation, Cellulose Insulation, Radiant Heating, Prep for PV panels, Low/No VOC finishes, formaldehyde free building materials, etc… After years of planning, Bruce and Cathy finally have finally seen their 1939 cottage transform into their dream home…expanded, modern and green.
